ReMap International Architectural Symposium & Workshops

Η γκαλερί Johann König, παρουσιάζει στο ReMap 2, την ατομική έκθεση της Alicja Kwade, η οποία πρόσφατα έγινε μέλος της. Η έκθεσή της στο ReMap 2 συγκεκτρώνει διάφορα έργα: γλυπτά, φωτογραφίες και έργα σε χαρτί που επιτρέπουν στους επισκέπτες να διαπιστώσουν τις διαφορετικές μεθόδους εργασίας και πεδία ενδιαφερόντων της νέας καλλιτέχνιδας.

Γεννημένη στο Kattowice, της Πολωνίας, το 1979, η Alicja Kwade σπούδασε Καλές Τέχνες στο UDK, στο Βερολίνο, μέχρι το 2005. Απο τότε η δουλειά της έχει παρουσιαστεί σε μεγάλες ομαδικές εκθέσεις στην Ευρώπη και στην Αμερική. Το 2008 βραβεύτηκε με το Piepenbrock Förderpreis für Skulptur, το οποίο ακολούθησε μια ατομική έκθεση στο Hamburger Bahnhof, Βερολίνο. Η πρώτη της ατομική έκθεση στην γκαλερί Johann König, θα πραγματοποιηθεί τον Σεπτέμβριο 2009.

Η Kirsty Bell, στην εργασία της για το βραβείο Kunstpreis der Böttcherstraße, Weserburg Bremen, για το οποίο η Alicja Kwade έχει προταθεί φέτος, χαρακτήρισε το έργο της νεαρής Γερμανίδας καλλιτέχνιδας ως εξής: “Στα έργα της Alicja Kwade υπάρχει μια πολυτελής ακρίβεια, η οποία καταρχήν τα κάνει να δείχνουν αυταπόδεικτα. Απέριττα και καλαίσθητα, με μια προτίμηση για τις κατοπτρικές επιφάνειες, την συμμετρία και τα υψηλής ποιότητας υλικά, τα έργα αναδύουν μια απρόσκοπτη αυτοπεποίθηση. Μια πιο κοντινή ματιά όμως, αποκαλύπτει μια ατελή, νοητική γραμμή, που διαταράσσει τις αδιαπέραστες γυαλιστερές επιφάνειες. Καθώς το “αυταπόδεικτό” τους μοιάζει να είναι αναξιόπιστο, η σχέση μας με όλα τα φαινομενικά “αυταπόδεικτα” αντικείμενα γύρω μας γίνεται αμφίβολη. Με σχεδόν ανεπαίσθητα μέσα, οι ακρογωνιαίοι λίθοι της αντίληψής μας –χρονικοί, χωρικοί και φυσικοί- δοκιμάζονται.”

Johann König, Berlin is pleased to announce that the young German artist Alicja Kwade, who recently joined the gallery program, will show a solo presentation at ReMap 2 in Athens. The exhibition at ReMap 2 will assemble a group of works: sculptures, photographs and works on paper allowing visitors an insight in the artist’s different working strategies and horizons of interest.

Born in Kattowice, Poland in 1979 Alicja Kwade studied fine arts at the UDK, Berlin, until 2005. Since then her work has been presented in major group shows in Europe and the US. In 2008 she was awarded with the Piepenbrock Förderpreis für Skulptur and honoured with a solo exhibition at Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin. The first solo show at Johann König, Berlin will take place in September 2009.

In her essay for the Kunstpreis der Böttcherstraße, Weserburg Bremen, for which Alicja Kwade has been nominated this year, Kirsty Bell qualifies the work of the young female artist as following: “There is a glossy precision to Alicja Kwade’s works which makes them seem, at first, self-evident. Clean and elegant, with a fondness for reflective surfaces, symmetricism and high quality materials, they exude a confident seamlessness. But a closer look reveals a conceptual fault line that unsettles their impenetrable high gloss surfaces. As their self-evidence proves to be unreliable, our relations to the self-evident objects all around us are cast in doubt. With subtle means, the cornerstones of our perception –temporal, spatial and physical – are put to the test.”
