Stelios Faitakis occupies the main gallery space at The Breeder in his second solo show, “…to a blessed land of new promise”, which will feature unique site-specific murals. Faitakis negotiates diverse artistic heritages to confront man’s place in life through a series of impossible scenarios. His layering of symbols engenders a complex lexicon that signals the narrative image’s transcendence across time and space, and utilizes that inherent power to critique and even effect societal change.
Faitakis graduated from The Fine Arts School of Athens, and lives and works in Athens. His first solo show was at The Breeder in 2008. At the 2007 Athens Biennial his mural “Socrates drinks the conium” received great attention. Faitakis has participated in the group shows “Anathena” (2006) at the DESTE Foundation, and “What remains is future” (2006) in Patra. He was recently exhibited in Galerie Michael Janssen’s “Borderline Pleasures”.
