Η έκθεση «Γιατράκου 28, The neutrality of this section is disputed» παρουσιάζει μια επιλογή έργων, κυρίως new media, καθώς και ζωγραφικής, γλυπτικής, φωτογραφίας και performance. Οι 22 καλλιτέχνες που συμμετέχουν στην έκθεση προέρχονται από όλο τον κόσμο. Τα έργα παρουσιάζονται για πρώτη φορά στην Ελλάδα και πολλά έχουν δημιουργηθεί ειδικά για την έκθεση.

Ο τίτλος της έκθεσης συνδυάζει τη διεύθυνση του χώρου «Γιατράκου 28» και την έκφραση «The neutrality of this section is disputed», που εμφανίζεται σε λήμματα της ηλεκτρονικής Wikipedia, όταν θεωρείται ότι περιέχουν αμφιλεγόμενες απόψεις. Η έκθεση συγκεντρώνει μια επιλογή έργων που άμεσα ή έμμεσα αντιμετωπίζουν το ζήτημα της ουδετερότητας με απαξίωση, ειρωνεία, αδιαφορία ή συμπάθεια. Συχνά, οι καλλιτέχνες βλέπουν το έργο τους ως ουδέτερο, ενώ το κοινό μπορεί να το αντιλαμβάνεται διαφορετικά. Έτσι, όταν η ουδετερότητα ενός έργου αμφισβητείται, δεν σημαίνει απαραιτήτως ότι το έργο είναι προκατειλημμένο, αλλά ότι παρέχει την ερμηνευτική δυνατότητα για διαφορετική θεώρηση.

Ο εκθεσιακός χώρος είναι ένα παλιό εγκαταλειμμένο αθηναϊκό σπίτι όπου τα παράθυρα και οι μπαλκονόπορτες έχουν κτιστεί με τούβλα, δημιουργώντας συσκότιση. Δεδομένου ότι το σκοτάδι είναι το απαραίτητο περιβάλλον για τις προβολές slides και videos, η έκθεση ενστερνίζεται το σκοτάδι αυτό και μεταχειρίζεται το φως ως πρόσθετο έργο στο χώρο.

Με το πέρας της έκθεσης το σπίτι θα κατεδαφιστεί.

The exhibition "Giatrakou 28, The neutrality of this section is disputed" brings together closely associated artists who have been exhibiting their work in selected international shows. This exhibition comprises mostly new media works, as well as painting, sculpture, photography and performance. Most of the works are new, specially made for this show.

The title of the exhibition derives from the exhibition address and the Wikipedia heading when the featured article may contain controversial opinions on subjects that often carry an abundance of viewpoints and criticisms. This exhibition brings together a selection of works that directly or indirectly address this issue of neutrality with scepticism, irony, indifference or sympathy. Often, artists view their work as offering a neutral POV, while the audience disagree. The position of a piece in a “neutral POV dispute” does not necessarily mean it is biased, but that it offers the possibility of interpretation in another way.

The exhibition space is an abandoned Athenian house, where windows and other openings have been blocked with bricks for security, creating a blackened out ambience. Dark is the required environment for the new media and the show deals with this given obscurity, treating the light as an additional piece in the space.

The house will be demolished after the show.

The exhibition is curated by the visual artist Margarita Myrogianni and organised by project manager George Kyparissiadis.
