Α Midsummer Night’s Dream (Όνειρο θερινής Νύχτας) είναι ο τίτλος κάτω από το οποίο διαμορφώνεται η ανοιχτή θεματική πλατφόρμα των video προβολών στο θερινό screening room του Remap 2. Το γνωστό θεατρικό έργο - το οποίο πολύ συνοπτικά αναφέρεται στην περιπέτεια μιας καλοκαιρινής νύχτας στην Αθήνα, που περιπλέκει ‘στενά και προσωπικά’, κάτω από την επιρροή μαγικών ελιξίριων, ανθρώπους διαφορετικών κοινωνικών τάξεων της εποχής, μεταξύ τους αλλά και με τα ξωτικά του δάσους, όπου έχουν αποδράσει-μοιάζει να αποτελεί το κατάλληλο φόντο, πάνω στον οποίο θα παρουσιαστούν μια σειρά συγχρόνων βίντεο έργων.

Καταρχήν ετυμολογικά, διότι το πρόγραμμα των προβολών πραγματοποιείται τις νύχτες της θερινής σαιζόν και μάλιστα στην Αθήνα, όπως και στο έργο, καταμεσής μιας σειράς άκρως διαφορετικών μεταξύ τους δραστηριοτήτων της οδού Ιάσωνος στο Μεταξουργείο, μια τοποθεσία υπό διαμόρφωση. Ταυτόχρονα, εννοιολογικά λόγω των ζητημάτων των οποίων διαπραγματεύεται αυτό το έργο ώστε να έχει αποτελέσει κυρίαρχο θέμα ακόμη και σύγχρονων μελετών και διαχρονικό ‘σύμβολο’ για την νεανική κουλτούρα. Μέσα από τις διαφορετικές ταυτόχρονα εξελισσόμενες πλοκές ο Σαίξπηρ σχολιάζει τα όρια του φανταστικού με το πραγματικό, την αγνή αλλά και σκοτεινή πλευρά του ‘έρωτα’ και της ‘αγάπης’, την κατάρριψη της ατομικής και κοινωνικής ταυτότητας, την απόδραση, την ελευθερία, την προσωπική επανάσταση, ερωτήματα τα οποία ανάμεσα σε άλλα, απασχολούν πρωτίστως ακόμη και σήμερα την κοινωνία, την σύγχρονη πόλη, τον τόπο του Remap 2 και τους σύγχρονους καλλιτέχνες.

To “Α Midsummer Night’s Dream”, λοιπόν, ένα συνολικό πρόγραμμα προβολών, ειδικά επιμελημένο για τον χώρο παρουσίασε – ένα εφήμερο ‘θερινό παράθυρο απόδρασης’ στην Ιάσονος, και περιείχε ενότητες όπως :

That’s all Greek to me , πρόγραμμα βίντεο έργων, καλλιτεχνών που κατοικούν στην Ελλάδα, και τα οποία συνδέονται -με χαλαρούς δεσμούς- με την τοπικότητα, το πνεύμα και τα κοινωνικά ζητήματα όπως προκύπτουν σε αυτή την χώρα.,
Intercessions (μεσολαβήσεις) , Επιλογή έργων διεθνών καλλιτεχνών που συνεργάζονται με τις γκαλερί και τα μεμονωμένα projects που συμμετέχουν στο Remap 2

Ειδικά σε αυτό το δεύτερο μέρος το Α Midsummer Night’s Dream φιλοξενεί το MIRfestival το οποίο παρουσιάζει στις 24 και 25 Σεπτεμβρίου 2009 δύο προγράμματα ταινιών που επιμελήθηκε η Χριστιάνα Γαλανοπούλου, καλλιτεχνική του διευθύντρια
Στις 24 θα προβληθεί ένα από τα προγράμματα ταινιών που παίχτηκαν στο MIRfestival 2008. Ανάμεσά τους η ψυχεδελική ταινία δρόμου The Distance to The Sun του Andrea Dojmi, σε μουσική των Flushing Device.
Δύο από τις ταινίες που θα προβληθούν στις 25 είναι συμπαραγωγές του VideoDance, προγενέστερης εκδοχής του MIR. Προέκυψαν από ανάθεση σε δύο ιταλικές κολλεκτίβες, τους OgiNo Knauss και τους ZimmerFrei. Οι ομάδες προσκλήθηκαν στο πλαίσιο μεγαλύτερων πρότζεκτ που πραγματοποιούν σε μια σειρά από πόλεις, να έρθουν και να γυρίσουν, εξ ολοκλήρου, στη Θεσσαλονίκη (2005) και την Αθήνα (2007) αντίστοιχα, μια ταινία που παρουσιάστηκε στο φεστιβάλ με ζωντανή μουσική από τις ίδιες τις ομάδες, σε σύμπραξη με δύο ελληνικές, τους Drog_A_Tek και τους Free Piece of Tape. Το πρόγραμμα συμπληρώνει η ταινία Panorama_Venezia των ZimmerFrei, ανάθεση από τη Μπιενάλε της Βενετίας.

Midsummer Night’s Dream is the –borrowed- title under which the open air screening room of Remap 2 will reveal its ‘loose thematically’ artists’ film program.

In very few words- Shakespeare’s play is about the adventure of a variety of people, coming from very diverse social background, who find themselves –for completely different reasons- in the same forest (nearby Athens) at the same time, ( in the middle of a summer night). Due to the magical elixirs given to them by pucks, and evermore due to the mistake of one of the pucks, that confused which portion goes to whom, the characters eventually mix up in a very personal and intimate way until the next morning. The reference to this classic piece seems to form the ideal symbolical background for the projections of contemporary video works in the specific location, at the specific period of the year and the specific context. Etymologically speaking, the film program of Remap 2 is taking place only in the summer nights in Athens, but even more than that, the open air screening room is located at the street level of a highly congested area, where a series of different -often contradictory to each other -activities are taking place simultaneously. Prostitution, art, drugs, tradition, novelty, refugees, residents, coincide, in Iassonos Street, Metaxourgio a neighborhood under transformation. Through a set of different- simultaneously evolving plots, in the play, Shakespeare, comments -very accurately- on the limits between the fantastic and the real, the pure and the dark side of love, and the notions of “the let go of a socially mediated identity”, the escape, the freedom, and the personal revolution, among others. Without doubt, these existential questions are still prominent in today’s society and thus in the context of contemporary art.

That’s all Greek to Me , video works by artists that live in Greece and whose works, one way or another reflects the spirit, and the pathos of the complex contemporary urban locality
Intercessions , a selection of various international and Greek artists who are involved with the galleries and individual projects participating in Remap 2, and whose work shares affinities with Shakespeare’s piece.

Especially for phase 2 of the Remap KM, Invited to take part in the “Midsummer night’s dream”, MIRfestival presents on 24 and 25 two film programmes curated by its artistic director, Christiana Galanopoulou. On the 24th, one of the film programmes presented in MIRfestival 2008 will be screened, including Τhe Distance to the Sun, a psychedelic road movie by Andrea Dojmi, with a soundtrack by Flushing Device. Two of the films screening on the 25th, have been co-produced by VideoDance festival, MIRfestival’s ancestor. Two Italian collectives, OgiNo Knaus and ZimmerFrei, have accepted a film commission in the frame of longer projects, during which they shoot films in different cities. The collectives have been invited to come and shoot a film in Thessaloniki (2005) and Ahtens (2007) respectively. The films premiered during the festival with a live set of sound and music by the collectives who created them, each collaborating with one Greek band, namely Drog_A_Tek and Free Piece of Tape. The 3rd film of this programme is Panorama_Venezia by ZimmerFrei, commissioned by the Venice Biennial.
