Raul deNieves will create a site specific installation with a collection of drawings, sculptures and collages that play on the idea of black and white versus color. The artist will create the visual glee that is characteristic of his bright, candy-colored fantasy world.
Raúl deNieves was born in 1983 in Morelia Michuacan, Mexico and grew up in San Diego, Ca. deNieves’ first solo show, titled Beacha Beach Babies, was exhibited at Newman Popiashvili Gallery in 2007. In the summer of 2007 the artist performed at PS 1’s Summer Warm-Up and DUMBO Arts Under the Bridge Festival. deNieves also exhibited at Galerie Giti Nourbakhsch in Berlin in 2008. deNieves’ did a solo project at the Positions in Art Basel Miami Beach with NP Gallery in 2008.
His most recent projects include performances for Ryan Trecartin’s exhibition at Miami MoCA and deNieves is also participating in Xavier Cha’s exhibition Body Drama at the Whitney Museum in July, August 2011.
