SYNERGY-O is a theatre project that started in November 2007 for the purposes of the groups first show Tejas Verdes, in an old car repair-shop. Synergy-o doesn’t occupy a permanent space but moves every once in a while keeping as a goal its interaction and integration in the area and space it takes over. For the past three years its space has been the whole 5 story building on 15 Leonidou Str. In Metaxourgeio. Each floor worked as a small stage and each season different theatre groups presented their work interacting with each other, recycling sets, costumes and props. Parallel to the shows the Synergy-o group presented group exhibitions that their theme related to the show presented at each time. It was necessary to showcase the research done during rehearsals to the audience and create a platform for further discussion.
The exhibition takes place in one of the floors that was used as an exhibition and workshop area and it consists of three different parts presented in three different rooms. However, from the minute one approaches and climbs up the building there are remnants of sets and constructions that were part of Synergy-o’s shows.
The first part of the exhibition is a presentation of the work done in Synergy-o the past three years and its connection to the area and the people of Metaxourgeio. The integration of the Middle Eastern community has been crucial and of great importance during these years. The area of Metaxourgeio is known for its multi cultural character and together with the team of NGO AMAKA Synergy-o developed STATION ATHENS theatre, photography and video workshop for young immigrants, based on art therapy methods. The second part of the exhibition shows the work done the past two years in the workshop through drawings, photographs and video. There will also be live presentations from the participants of the workshops on specific dates and times (TBA). The last part presents a photography exhibition VILLA 15: Ciudad Oculta – Secret Town by NGO PH15 organized in collaboration with the NGO AMAKA. The photographs were taken by children living in Argentinean favelas. Thirty photos in black and white depict the terribly low living conditions in the area. This exhibition follows the exhibition Synergy-o and NGO Zakira presented in ReMap2 Lahza: A moment, with photos taken by children living in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
