BUS Projects, Melbourn, Australia
Show title: Kerameikou 32
Internationally renowned Australian sound artists Ros Bandt and Michael Fowler perform as part of Kerameikou 32. Bandt performs ‘Stack’, an industrial electro-acoustic road symphony featuring a bowed Tarhu and slide air whistles, as part her Archeology of the Roads installation. Fowler explores the confines of the Kerameikou truck as an acoustic arena transformed into a heterotopia using samples and sounds collected throughout his travels, mixed and performed live.

The Breeder
HOPE / RIP

The aim of the performance “RIP” is the uncontrolled activity of its viewers and the attachment of their temporary space and their usual position through a peculiar installation and route. The installation itself, which plays a very important role in the performance, is ever changing and calls the viewer to open an imaginary door and attempt to solve a dilemma while simultaneously it offers no certainty that a solution to the dilemma exists. Viewers and performers interact with one another. The output of the performance has an allegorical character and is between the borders of artistic practice and territorial division.

18:00-2:00, Greek Film Archive, 48 Iera Odos (map location 27)
Ντέρτι Humanism- The film appendix curated by Nadja Argyropoulou

Taking a somewhat divergent approach to identity, Ντέρτι Humanism sets the ever-pressing issue of coexistence in its sights. Confined to the sphere of the cinematic imagination and aimed at opening up the discussion still further, Ντέρτι Humanism: the cinematic annex is the abridged version of the Ντέρτι Humanism experience. The Greek Film Archive’s nature, history and collection make it an ideal platform for a venture of this sort, and the institution has collaborated on it with the curator of Ντέρτι Humanism, Nadja Argyropoulou. Starting at 6 pm on September 13 (and continuing until 2 pm the following day), every available screen in the Archive will be devoted to an exploration of different versions of Ντέρτι Humanism. Ντέρτι Humanism: the Cinematic Annex, a mini ‘treasure hunt’ to which private individuals have contributed as well as institutions like the Greek Film Centre, will continue for the next 15 days in the Film Archive’s small exhibition space. Films of varying degrees of bizarreness from a range of historical and artistic contexts—including Joseph Hepp’s The Adventures of Villar, Angelos Prokopiou’s Daphne: Virgin of the golden laurels (one of the first art films made in Greece), René Clair’s Entr’acte, Jacov Protazanof’s The Feast of Saint George, Kostas Sfikas’ Allegory, Stavros Tornes’ Balamos, Vassilis Photopoulos’ Orestis as well as films by Hristos Vakalopoulos, Eva Stefani and Antuoanetta Angelidi, plus documentaries on Empeirikos, Gonatas et al.—and sculpture-fragments from old films, storyboards and archives of every sort treating the cinematic experience in the cinematheatrestudio on the ground floor, will seek to create an atlas of unexpected links centred on Ντέρτι Humanism.

*Grrr*(eece) & *Hmmm* by Stefan Bidner

“… a flood of information washes through the bodies, and the things heard, read and seen form thorns in the flesh of the enraged citizens who, shaking their heads, give way to a humph and a growl, while the vultures circle the pulverized heap of money shit, but the seismographic heart of the artist had exposed the apocalyptic world plan long before the trouble hit the land …”

CREDIT CRUNCH MEAL – (free food for all) – plus Selected Videos
by Rainer Ganahl
“Since 2008, Rainer Ganahl has created special Credit Crunch Meals, that are inspired by the obscenity of finance and politics. The obscene combination of high finance and politics has created the recent CREDIT CRUNCH CRISIS. Thus the media labeled this current world economic crisis that started in 2008 and still hasn t gone away.In fact with Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Spain and of course, the US Housing Crisis – to name just a few – the show is far from over. Special guest appearance: Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former chief of the IMF, currently under house arrest and accused of raping an immigrant hotel worker from Africa in NYC”.

a glimpse of / a periodical network

“a glimpse of” is an online project which connects texts, images and sounds for an unpredictable narrative in progress. Each issue starts with a text which is republished as a word reservoir and a source of free associations. Each contributor choses a word from there. This word is the subject of his/her submission and the link between his/her work and the republished text. The words-links generate a new narrative made by art and sound works, photographs, works of fiction prose and poetry.

The republished texts in the nine issues include a faux-interview by Wayne Koestenbaum, notes on purple by Derek Jarman, a play by Gertrude Stein and an essay about the novella by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. Among the contributors’ works are the portrait of a “virgin” by The Callas, a photo of the “world” by Yannis Drakoulidis, the “no” sounds by Irini Karayannopoulou, a prose “cake” by Antonis Katsouris, a “morv” photo by Panayiotis Lamprou and an “elemental” poem by Angela Mewes.

The project will be presented by Dimitra Ioannou at the OMMU temporary bookstore.

Matteus
Under the moniker Matteus, Manthos Vidalis hides a one man band that moves through the boundaries of the avant-garde electronic experimentation. Matteus uses the human voice along with samples of natural instruments, piano and heavy keyboards. Haunted melodies and noise passages illustrate the image of a very dark – mystical project.

On steep waves

a postcard wandering exhibition collected by Katherina Olschbaur
with a text by Arie Amaya – Akkermans

Friends, artists and people that I have met on journeys in the course of the last few years were invited to send me postcards to my temporary addresses, stations, in between Vienna and Athens. The message from another place, the place that is not present, or the person that is absent; that is the central theme of the exhibition. The title was chosen freely from a line of Arthur Rimbaud’s ‘Le Bateau Ivre (1871) in the German rendition of Paul Celan, out of which we are drawn to the image of the vessel in a turbulent sea as a metaphor for a journey with an open end, or for a permanent state of unrest. “On steep waves/ Auf steiler Welle// στην πλαγιά των κυμάτων ” relies at the same time on a very personal experience: solitude – and here poses the question if at this very junction of time it becomes political as well ? – upon awareness of one’s loneliness, one is ready to receive a message, a message from far away, in times of utmost uncertainty. “On steep waves/ Auf steiler Welle / στην πλαγιά των κυμάτων” is made as a wandering exhibition, with its first station in Athens, Kerameikos-Metaxourgeio, 27.- 30. October, 2011. The second station will be in Vienna on 16. of November 2011, a one evening show at the Fluc in Vienna, during the Vienna Art Week “Reflecting Realities”; other stations are still open and in planning. The exhibition will change and grow in the course of this journey. Unlike the idea of an archive, the exhibit is more like a collection, an open book of about 40 poems where each message is visible to the beholder and holds a singular importance on its own.

Theo Prodromidis “Invitation to A Serenade (From a Gallery to a Street, Rebecca Camhi, Athens)”. The artist invites athens-based bands to perform a disruption of the everyday aesthetic experience of this street in Kerameikos, on the facade of a neoclassical house turned into gallery, introducing an action bound with Mediterranean traditions and mythical love stories: that of the serenade, but reversed in its dynamic, from the balcony to the street.
