Transmission is an artist-run gallery founded in 1983 that aims to support a local and national community of artists in Glasgow and Scotland. Transmission has devised a 6-week residency for the duration of ReMap that will continue to pursue these intentions.
Glasgow-based artist Rob Kennedy has been invited to undertake this residency that will be supported by a series of events, screenings and presentations by himself and the Transmission committee. With an exhibition space operating as an open studio, Kennedy is situated to fully engage with social and artistic networks within with the city of Athens and the broader event of ReMap.
Kennedy’s work whether in video, sculpture or sound is always wondering about the relationship between order and disorder and how they contaminate and recuperate each other. Having drawn on structures of television media representation to make video works that attempt to rationalise particular ideas of narrative, language and perception, it seems possible that this re-use and re-configuring of signs could also be put to use in a particular physical, political and social environment that is acutely aware of the mutability of translation, interpretation and understanding as creative tools of production.
Recent exhibitions, screenings include ‘(n)either use (n)or ornament’, Sunbear Gallery, Edinburgh, UK, Videonale, GOMA, Glasgow, UK, ‘Another Opening’, group show Nomi’s Kitchen, Glasgow, UK. Previous projects with Transmission gallery include, ‘Something is wrong here…’, solo exhibition, 2007, ‘Radiance Festival’, with Torsten Laushmann, Glasgow, 2006.

Rob Kennedy ‘Between Yes And No Stop And Go’, 2005, video still.

Rob Kennedy ‘Possible uses of disorder’, 2010, video installation.
